Body Image + Body Love + Health Pt. 2

Pt. 2 Body Love

There are many opinions on what body love “really” is. So I am going to talk about this concept as I understand and have experienced it.

Body love is a positive action we take in response to our body image. Body love can change our body image, it typically does not happen the other way around.

Ya heard?

That means changing our body will not make us love ourselves more.

You are worthy of love and belonging now, and your worth will not change.

I will forever repeat this.

Since I am a person of faith I believe deeply that we were created on purpose. This means we are inherently worthy. Knowing this and choosing to believe it (by action) is so important in living in love towards ourselves.

Now, I have been on many sides of the spectrum. No one can love your body for you, not your partner, parents, kids, friends, or even the universe. You have to do the daily work.

While you are fumbling around in this perhaps, new journey, it does help to be around others who can model a healthy relationship with their body. You can draw from their strength while you build your own.

When it comes to body love it’s so important to seek out community!

Isolation is a place of withering.

Wanting to change your body is not wrong.

Check your intentions.

It can throw us into a “body = worthiness spiral”, and it should come from a place of love and acceptance instead.

What body love can look like:

Removing restriction from your diet, eating the “naughty” foods like fries, donuts milkshakes, burgers, bacon.

Deciding to stop binging on food (even “healthy” stuff).

Deciding to increase your fitness and eat for performance while following macros for your goals.

Wearing the crop top, cut off shorts, or bikini.

Wearing loose, comfy clothing.

Deciding to cut back (or cut out) drinking.

Gaining more lean muscle mass, or working out for aesthetics.

Deciding to commit to harder training.

Committing to taking more rest days.

Much like life in general it’s often not about the what. It’s about the why.
